Sanofi-Aventis Makes Hostile Bid to Acquire Genzyme: Are They Overpaying?
Value Expectations submits: Yesterday, France’s largest drugmaker Sanofi-Aventis (SNY) went hostile with their $18.5 billion bid for US biotech company Genzyme (GENZ) after Genzyme’s management refused the offer at the same price twice already. The news of this takeover have driven Genzyme’s share price to above $71, as the market seems to believe that Genzyme will be able to get Sanofi to raise its current $69 a share offer. Genzyme’s management rejected the $69 a share offer twice – once in July and again in August – so Sanofi has offered it to Genzyme’s investors.
